The dog beach at the north end of Asbury Park is a gathering place for the dog community there.  They are allowed to bring their canine friends  once the lifeguards are gone.  It was obvious that it was a social event for the dogs and their owners.  The dogs ran around off leash and they had a great time. Some frolicked in the ocean. The owners made sure that everything was clean and safe. It also is one of the most beautiful times of day to…

So, while I was there, a stretch limo with NY plates pull up, and  two women and a man get out.  They are having a conversation, oblivious to the fact that I was recording every word for Blogfinger “Conversations.”

Just then, from the limo, an actual Broadway cast emerged onto the sidewalk like one of those clown cars in the circus or one of those old musicals where there is dialogue and then everybody bursts into song and dance:

Full disclosure: The first recording is from Stephen Sondheim’s “Follies”  while the second is from a much older show “The Ziegfeld Follies.”

Crisp and Vibrant

Broken Light: A Photography Collective

Photo by contributor Matt Williams from Portsmouth, UK. In his late teens and early twenties he learned that he was living with bipolar disorder. He felt lost and in many ways existing or deluding himself rather than really living life. He has since stabilized, and discovered what is good for him, such as creativity, and what he should avoid. His bipolar has led him to experience periods of immense joy and at other times wondering why the world is so crazy. Mostly, he treasures those close to him who have supported him and shown him that the world is really worth sticking around for.

About this photo: “A frosty morning in my back garden. Crisp and vibrant – like the mind can be. I love the crystal structures in the frost…”

Trauma, Grief, and Finding Myself

Broken Light: A Photography Collective

Please say a warm hello to first-time contributor Livonne, a woman from Australia who lives with PTSD, anxiety and depression. She suffered sexual abuse as a child, as well as a marriage that turned violent and culminated in her being stalked for nearly 5 years and then having her 10-year-old daughter killed on an access visit. Livonne was left to raise two young boys on her own while trying to deal with the grief. Three years after her daughter’s death, her mother got cancer, and Livonne nursed her until her passing. She then found herself in and out of work as she tried to get both herself and her boys back on track. Six years ago, Livonne moved so she could try to find herself and make a fresh start now that the boys have grown. She started a photography course at a TAFE college and is now in…
